Department of Malayalam

Department of Malayalam has been functioning in the college from the inception of the college Various literary & cultural programmes are conducted for the students in collaboration with different clubs and associations functioning in the college, such asSargam Literary Association (later renamed as Book Club), Media Club, Focus Film Club etc. Almost 75% of the students opt for Malayalam as their Part II second language as it is their mother tongue. The course content is designed in such a way that students choosing Malayalam as second language will be able to understand deeply the cultural and linguistic heritage of Kerala and to imbibe modern trends in Malayalam literature. The Department also envisages that through this course, historical, sociological and cultural aspects of our rich heritage would be transmitted to students. There are separate syllabi for Part II Malayalam for B Sc (Language reduced pattern) and B.Com courses. Dr Joseph K J, lecturer in the Department, regularly writes articles like essays and poems in leading Malayalam literary magazines.
